Aimee LaFave

Aimee is usually fashionably late to class. Maybe because she’s running her own successful hair salon, travailing from the remote island she lives on, taking care of her wonderful family of five (with one on the way!), or can’t tear herself away from conversations with members she passes on her way in because she’s a good listener and genuinely cares about everyone’s wellbeing. Regardless of her being tardy, it’s always a pleasure having her in class! She’s very mindful of her form and always expresses gratitude for the coach’s knowledge and guidance. Being consistent regardless is a challenge and she’s committed herself through it all. We love you Aimee, thanks for making us a part of your busy life!

Q&A

What was your motivation for joining Armor Athletics, and what’s your biggest motivation for continuing to show up?

My motivation for joining was trying a new gym that I thought would watch out for my posture and safety while working out as I had hurt myself at other places! My motivation for showing up is – the people and amazing workouts!

What’s your favorite music to work out to?

Favorite music – Anthony’s music otherwise known as nasty, ghetto, rap.

What’s an accomplishment (Inside or outside the gym) you’re proud of?

An accomplishment I’m proud of is sticking with CrossFit (kinda) during this whole pregnancy!

How has doing CrossFit during your pregnancy been, and do you feel like it’s helped you through your pregnancy?

CrossFit through this pregnancy has helped me so much! I feel like I sleep better, am healthier, and will recover better after the baby. Even if I don’t do much, just showing up motivates me to move my body where I may not if I was just at home:)

If you could choose one superpower, what would it be and why?

Superpower would have to be teleportation because let’s be honest …. The island, me being late at work, it could all help me get to CrossFit more often or on time hahaha

Scott Nicholson

Scott travels a lot for work so it’s been great to see his smiling face this last month! He’s been one of our OG members with us since the “Trident Athletics” days, sometimes rocking a throwback Trident shirt to class. He asks anyone lingering at the desk- including staff- if they’re going to work out so they can share in the suffering he’s forced to endure (haha). He moves really well and pushes himself during every workout regardless of how tired or unmotivated he might feel at the time. Scott has a good sense of humor and always brings great energy into the gym. Thanks for sticking with us all these years Scott, cheers to many more!

Q&A

What was your motivation for joining Armor Athletics and what’s your biggest motivation for continuing to show up?

I joined Armor back when it was called Trident in 2014. In fact, that was my first introduction to CrossFit. In my first year alone I lost 20 pounds all the while gaining muscle. Although I moved away for a while due to job changes, I joined Armor at the first opportunity when I relocated back to Tacoma. The quality coaching and programming coupled with a supportive community keep me coming back. There are times I show up to the gym stressed, sleepy, hungry, or just plain moody and everyone accepts me for who I am. I am continually inspired by those I get to work out with including pregnant women and wounded veterans. I am honored to be part of a gym that gives back to the community.

What’s your favorite music to work out to?

I don’t know why but Beastie Boys “Sabotage” or Guns n’ Roses “Welcome to the Jungle” always gets me moving.

What’s an accomplishment (inside or outside the gym) you are proud of?

Inside the gym, I would say being able to do a muscle up. Outside the gym, I worked full-time while I put myself through law school. Those were some tough, long days over several years but it set me up for future career success.

What is a fun fact about you?

I enjoy playing and watching tennis. I have traveled the world going to tennis tournaments including all four tennis majors.

If you could choose one superpower, what would it be and why?

Maybe it’s because I fly so much for work, but teleportation would be pretty cool and convenient, especially for making it to CrossFit classes 😊.
