Aynsley Butler
Aynsley felt she was very worthy of being selected for member of the month for quite a while and for a few reasons. She always trains hard in both CrossFit and Olympic Weightlifting. Even while she was deployed to Syria, she would always ask questions and advice regarding technique and follow along with the gym. I respect her because she was willing to leave her comfort zone and compete in the Armor Open. It takes courage to try something new and stand in front of people you don’t know and lift at your max. Aynsley was even struggling with an injury but persevered past it to go 5/6 on her lifts during the Armor Open.
Q&A
What/who made you start CrossFit and what made you choose Armor?
I’ve dabbled with CrossFit on and off since high school. After finishing residency I decided I wanted to get back into it full time and found Armor. I like that CrossFit incorporates so many aspects of fitness: gymnastics, weight lifting, endurance, flexibility, strength, etc. I love the coaching and community that Armor provides its members.
What motivates you during a workout?
Getting stronger, both mentally and physically.
What’s an accomplishment (Inside or outside the gym) you’re proud of?
I recently competed in the Armor Open, which was my first weightlifting competition. It was a good experience as it pushed me out of my comfort zone and introduced me to the competitive side of Olympic weightlifting.
Do you have any pre or post-workout rituals? What are they?
Not really. Pre-workout, hah.
What type of activities do you enjoy doing when you’re not at Armor?
I’ve recently gotten into playing ice hockey and baking, ha. What can I say, I’m a woman of many talents 😉
NICK HANSEN
Nick travels a lot for his work, but you know when he is home because he’ll be at the gym. He’s strong and likes to lift heavy and compete with the other boys at 4 pm. He has a great attitude and is encouraging to others as well. He always stays after class and works a little extra on some strength elements. Glad we have Nick as a member here at Armor.
Q&A
What/who made you start CrossFit and what made you choose Armor?
I started CrossFit because my wife (who does Orange Theory now) dragged me to some classes when we lived in Bellevue. I also wanted to get jacked, which didn’t really work but I find it to be a great way to keep fitness unique and challenging. I chose Armor, specifically, because of the range of workouts and the level of difficulty.
What motivates you during a workout?
Anthony, mostly. Also, the eternal struggle between wanting a six-pack and wanting a six-pack
What’s an accomplishment (Inside or outside the gym) you’re proud of?
Once upon a time, I benched 3 plates
Do you have any pre or post-workout rituals? What are they?
– Pre-workout is dry-scooping NO Xplode with a glass of cold water. Always has been, and always will be
– Post-workout I try to get some bro-lifts in for the ladies and my wife. Bench press, bicep curls, tricep extensions, abs, etc…
What type of activities do you enjoy doing when you’re not at Armor?
– Golf is life
– I travel quite a lot, which is great for life but poor for fitness.
– I enjoy games quite a lot, both of the board and video variety.
– I like watching motocross. I used to enjoy participating, but I found it to be very bad for my health.
